Our Church Home
I've found our church home for my little family! I was baptized at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano and it is my favorite church. I also have decided that Adam and I will be going on Sundays once his immune system has been built up to a healthy point. There are a few things I love about my church. They have an amazing children's wing. Their nursery is nice, and they have a very organized pager system that I like. They also have a curriculum starting from day one. I love this. I'm a big believer that babies should be stimulated, so I'm very happy about their "lessons." I bet they are adorable. They offer many opportunities for new mothers. They have a nursing mother's room, which is awesome, where you can watch the service and be with your baby while nursing. Also, they have a first time new mommies class where you can get together and share support. And lastly, I love the tools given to parents to work with their children during the week to reflect and help strengthen their faith. I read an article recently about helping children learn to pray at night and I think these resources will be very helpful in our journey.
I'm really excited to provide this spiritual foundation for my son. I really think that faith keeps you grounded and I think I would have handled the bad things in my life differently if I would have developed a stronger faith. I've always struggled with not letting the hard times define me. Now that God has given me a precious gift, I'd like to give back by Adam learning about him. I think my mom will be going with us, too so it will be nice getting back into the swing of things.
I've also been thinking about how I want to instill the old school values in him that I HOPE he will implement as he grows up. Things like getting up when a lady walks in the room, always opening doors, and being a true gentleman. We will start young! I'm sure it will be very entertaining. Ha.
I'm also trying to think of creative ways to teach service. I want him to be able to see those in need and to be able to feel the joy of selfless giving. I'm still thinking on that but I look forward to coming up with some great things for us to do.
Yay for FAMILY VALUES!
