Pediatrician Interview
Great news, I've found Adam a great doctor! Her facility is located right across the street! It takes about 30 seconds to drive there, and I LOVED what I saw today. When I walked in for the consult, I was greeted by VERY sweet nurses. There was NO ONE in the waiting room and they had two separate areas for well children and an area for sick children. I was very happy to see this as I know how easily germs can be transferred. I got a tour of the facility and loved the rooms! They all had a theme. I saw a SUPERMAN room, and a CURIOUS GEORGE room. All adorable! Then the doctor came in and we talked for awhile. She is VERY sweet, very personable and outgoing and I explained how I don't really know what I'm doing and how this is a whole new world for me. She was very informative and answered all my questions. She even said, "Wow, you are by far the most organized mom I've seen, and I've had a lot of prenatal consults!" I was like, REALLY?! She's like, "Yeah, you have a form, a folder, and everything all organized!" LOL I admit I do like to have a plan.
Some things I loved:
*They are open until 6:00pm every day so I can take him after work if I ever need to.
*They said they would fit him in immediately when it's time for his first appointment, two days after discharge from the hospital. She explained that they usually fit them in first thing in the morning or right after lunch so he will get right in and he won't be exposed to other sick children. This was great as I know his immune system will not have been built up, yet. What a relief!
*After hours, their line is connected to an on call nurse who is there strictly to answer questions. She will handle all night time concerns and one of the three doctors in the practice I chose will also be available on call 24/7 by phone if that nurse needs to contact them. Love that!
*She told me that they will always get him in quickly for appointments, and that there is hardly ever a long wait in the waiting room.
*They have Saturday hours. YAY!
So yeah, I couldn't believe how wonderful I felt leaving that building. There is no better comfort in knowing that my baby will be VERY well taken care of. The office couldn't be any closer and it's overall just a VERY good situation. When I was leaving she said, "You're going to be great. I just know it." SO sweet! And they didn't even charge me for the consult! YAY for great doctors!!
