Mommy Is A Student!

Last Thursday, I had my first parenting class! It was the Newborn Basic Care class. I loved it. OF COURSE I was the *ONLY* one there without a husband and by myself, and that wasn't too fun, but I need to be the best mommy I can be, so I went anyway and made the best of it. I'm proud of myself for being my best, even when it's uncomfortable. I know my son deserves that. We had to do the awkward "Hi, I'm __________, we are due __________ and something great about us is _____________." So awkward. You'd think teachers would figure out that nobody really likes doing that. Ha, oh well.

Those who know me know that I *LOVE* to learn new things. Trying something new, that I've never done before, and learning and practicing the craft has always been really stimulating to me. Having this trait, I naturally love being a student. And I loved this class. We talked about everything, from what happens after birth, to the post partum stay, to newborn bathing, feeding, soothing techniques, safety, health, everything. We practiced swaddling and diapering. I'm pretty much a natural and felt much better about my "I hope I'm good at this" fears that I'm sure all new mommies have. I DO need a little more practice with swaddling but I'm getting better as I have been practicing on my dog's stuffed animals. LOL it's pretty to funny walking around my apartment right now. Many of Kaci's toys are wrapped like a burrito. Ha!

Anyway, it went great and everyone was nice and I'm just feeling wonderful about things. My mom is amazing and has been there for me so much and I can't wait to see her with my son. She's going to be a wonderful Gammy and I know my son is going to ADORE her. I'm very blessed.

My next class is next week and it's the breastfeeding class! I'm trying to figure out how this one is going to work. It's not like we can practice. LOL! I'm guessing videos? Should be interesting!
